Pregnancy and childbirth
Reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive treatment, ideal for maintaining balance and harmony during the changes of pregnancy. Many of the minor symptoms of pregnancy respond well to reflexology such as morning sickness, fluid retention, heartburn, headaches, backache, constipation, fatigue and helping to balance blood pressure.
When you are pregnant you want to make sure that everything you do is safe for both you and your baby. Reflexology is generally considered safe in pregnancy, provided all is well with your pregnancy and your Reflexologist knows that you’re pregnant.
Before treatment begins, a detailed consultation takes place where we identify possible contraindications for the treatment. Although there are very few contraindications in reflexology, some conditions should be avoided altogether:
- Pre-term labour – onset of labour at any time before 37 weeks gestation
- Hydroamnios – if there is too much amniotic fluid around the baby after 32 weeks gestation
- Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
- Any other complications where you require obstetric care
